Ins/Outs #20
Oh em eff gee! March-April every year for me is like the real Spring, I have been imbued with a new energy and realised I had neglected my baby, my ins/outs. I’ve been on holidays in Barcelona the last few weeks, that’s my excuse (yes I am smug, yes I did write part of this newsletter on the beach, yes I did get burnt).
Flame emoji toilet seat 🔥🔥🔥
Having a wee on this toilet seat did add years on to my life expectancy. Many would think it’d take years off…
Basque sighting in Cork
See below picture spotted in an alley in Cork and also there was txapela spotted on possibly the most Basque looking feen ever outside Zambrero, I’m talking one slutty hoop earring and the mullet-moustache combo. Missed opportunity to screech AÚPA EUSKADI in his face and run away.
Rips on jeans
They need to look shabby, they need to be second hand and ripped wide open on the knees. They are the Jean staple of my spring/summer.
Vermut…..HELLO
So tasty, they give you the perfect amount to accompany a single rollie. Recently I ventured up to Montjuic with a friend to visit the Olympic swimming pool -> vermut + view + rollie + sun + intense eye contact from everyone in the queue who wants your seat = success.
Seriously, though you feel like a monarch observing lowly peasants when you’re at a bar and have the best seat in the house and everyone is standing around preparing to scrap for your seat after you’ve left. Weird power trip that I will be experimenting with in the future.
Also, full disclosure, I was one of those BEGS who was hovering next to a group of girls for a bit to suss if they were going.
Exhibitions using sound more
I want to write a longer piece on this but recently I have encountered a lot more art work being made with sound. There’s literally endless room for experimentation and I find it interesting as hearing is one of the senses that can ground you most in the present.
Using sound I feel is such an interesting way to bring the viewer back into their body when engaging with work in a gallery. To be honest you can walk around an exhibition looking at paintings and be in your head thinking of something else the whole time so using sound in artistic practice can be so powerful. Sound art is up there with my other favourite, sculpture. #analogvibe
I am thinking of Communion Host, the radio show on Éist by Brigid Cryan, and also an exhibition I saw in Barcelona in particular, by MANS O.

Zam Fam
Secured some socks thank god but awww like wtf. Can you imagine never getting to see all your work baes every day or make your own burrito bowl??? No one tells you about the sheer adrenaline of working in food service like why was my heart RACING some evenings.
Can you also imagine seeing some of your regulars more than your family even though you live at home with said family….
Doubting yourself ever
It is forbidden for the rest of 2026! You must never think negatively again. I think life has a funny way of aligning, of working out, and I love a coincidence that I can spin as the universe playfully telling me it’s not that deep.
Metro air
Every time I get out of that sticky, clammy air I feel like my lung capacity has decreased. Long term exposure to metro air must surely have consequences…like why is it so warm? Is metro the predecessor of vape battery lung air?
Listening to the same playlist on repeat
Algorithms and AI music and so much else has made my playlists a bit lacklustre recently, so I am trying to listen to more new, different music. I am kind of half-arsing it though because truthfully I add all these new songs to a new playlist and I never quite press play. What can I say, I like the same 5 Sexyy Red songs on repeat.
Speaking English
Me and the ‘aul bitch that is castellano have such an on and off relationship but I think I’m ready to tie the knot with her. I am ready to commit to a Cork-Andalucian accent, while I’m in Granada anyways…I should write the next newsletter in Spanish…that could be glam!

Youre so right about sound in exhibitions! You should check out the abbas zahedi show in the douglas hyde gallery if youre in dub sometime soon - i think youd like!
Get into the art of full album listenings! I find it impossible to listen to playlists anymore
